Bankruptcy Education

Consumer Debt Counselors has been approved by the Executive Office for U.S. Trustees to issue counseling certificates in compliance with the requirements of The Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005 for the following Judicial Districts:

  • North Florida
  • Mid-Florida
  • South Florida
  • Northern Georgia
  • Middle Georgia
  • Southern Georgia
  • Illinois Central
  • Illinois Northern
  • Illinois Southern
  • Louisiana Eastern
  • Louisiana Middle
  • Louisiana Western
  • Washington Eastern
  • Washington Western

Consumer Debt Counselors has trained, professional, Counselors who will help you create a detailed financial assessment in which you will analyze your income, expenses, assets and liabilities. This process will give you an accurate picture of your financial situation, enabling your Counselor to review non-bankruptcy alternatives.

 

At the conclusion of your Bankruptcy Counseling session, you will be issued a certificate of completion that allows you to proceed with the bankruptcy process.

 

Note: Approval as a Pre-Bankruptcy Credit Counseling provider does not constitute an endorsement of this, or any other, agency by the EOUST.

Please be aware that there is a customary fee of $50 for this counseling session; but Consumer Debt Counselors will waive this fee when household income falls below specific levels. If you believe that you may qualify for a fee waiver, you should discuss this with your Counselor.

 

The Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005 also requires that any person who files for protection under the bankruptcy law must complete a Personal Financial Management Instructional Course for Debtors (Debtor Education) delivered by an approved course provider. This course is intended to help individuals and families who have filed for bankruptcy protection learn and develop new money management skills that will help them avoid future financial mis-steps that may lead to problems similar to those that the consumer is currently experiencing and may have created the need to file for bankruptcy protection.

 

Consumer Debt Counselors has been approved by the Executive Office of U.S. Trustees (EOUST) as a provider of this required Personal Financial Management Course for Debtors for the judicial districts named above.
