Consumer Debt Counselors is a licensed, bonded, and accredited non-profit corporation organized under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Consumer Debt Counselors was founded because we know that, when money problems have you feeling overwhelmed and all alone, you want to be able to talk with someone who can empathize with your situation and help you find true solutions; not panaceas and platitudes. Consumer Debt Counselors is dedicated to helping individuals and families who are experiencing financial difficulties. We believe that individuals and families who contact Consumer Debt Counselors have certain expectations; and rightfully so. We believe that you have a right to:
- Be treated with respect and dignity;
- Prompt, confidential, courteous counseling services from knowledgeable, certified counselors;
Be actively involved in a comprehensive assessment of your financial situation;
- Receive counseling services that address your individual needs and provide personalized solutions to your problems; and, to receive a written plan of action that addresses your concerns and situation;
- Have your questions and concerns addressed in a professional and caring manner;
- Accountability by Consumer Debt Counselors in handling your finances and financial information, including the correction of any errors made by Consumer Debt Counselors;
- Express your dissatisfaction, if any, through a Complaint Resolution Process;
- Discontinue your relationship with Consumer Debt Counselors at any time.
When you contact Consumer Debt Counselors, you will receive counseling from a Counselor who is enrolled in, or has completed, a Counselor Certification Course designed by Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education (AFCPE) or the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC). After your Counselor gathers information regarding your present financial situation, you will be provided with a written assessment that outlines a suggested plan of action that will help you address the issues you face. If your Counselor determines that a Debt Management Program is appropriate to your situation and recommends that you enroll is such a program, you should be aware that Consumer Debt Counselors serves a dual role in its capacity of helping you repay your debts and helping your creditors receive the money that you owe them.
You should be aware that Consumer Debt Counselors receives funding from a variety of sources including, but not limited to, Fair Share Contributions from creditors, grants, voluntary client contributions and fees.
